Depending on the version of Internet Explorer, there is a button (if visible) to the right of the address window called 'Compatibility View'.

If that button is not available, it can also be found under 'tools' . Under tools there is also an option for 'Compatibility View Settings' You can add specific web addresses of those sites that give you problems so this doesn't happen in the future.
